Welcome  to Garegnani archive web site

This website is dedicated to the archive of documents and manuscripts that belonged to Pierangelo Garegnani (1930–2011). The Archive brings together documents, manuscripts, study materials, correspondence and publications that bear witness to Garegnani’s scientific and intellectual activity and constitute a resource of great interest for the history of contemporary economic thought. The project aims to make this heritage increasingly accessible to the scholarly community and to the interested public through the reorganisation of the materials, archival description, digitisation, and the development of advanced tools for consultation and research.

The activities, which are still ongoing, include the creation of an archival database, the organisation of the documentation according to shared scholarly criteria, and the definition of procedures enabling the effective management of the materials that entered the archive at three distinct moments. Particular attention is devoted to the construction of an information system capable of facilitating the identification and retrieval of documents, thereby encouraging the study of the works, research and intellectual relationships that characterised Pierangelo Garegnani’s scholarly career.

At present, the archive consists of two different sections, relating to a first and a second deposit of papers. The first deposit mainly contains printed documents, including documents by other authors received by Garegnani and, in some cases, annotated by him. The second deposit, whose inventory will be made available shortly, mainly contains handwritten documents covering the full span of Garegnani’s career, from the preparation of his PhD thesis at Cambridge through to his most recent work. A third section is expected to be opened in the future, containing the papers that were kept at Garegnani’s house in Rapallo and that formed the subject of a third deposit.

The first section of the collection currently comprises 1,694 archival units, organised according to a hierarchical structure arranged into series. The descriptive arrangement presented here should be regarded as provisional, as it may be supplemented or modified upon completion of the project to reorder and describe the entire archival complex, once the documentary groups subsequently deposited in the archive have been processed.
